Installation
Tutor AI can be installed in two ways: uploading a ZIP (recommended) or manual installation.
Install the Datacurso AI Provider first
Tutor AI 2.0.8 declares a dependency on aiprovider_datacurso 2026072300 or later. Moodle refuses to install local_dttutor if the provider is missing or older than that version. Install and license the Datacurso AI Provider before continuing (see Prerequisites).
Option 1: Installing via uploaded ZIP file (recommended)
- Log in to Moodle as an administrator and go to:
Site administration → Plugins → Install plugins - Upload the ZIP file that contains the plugin source. Moodle should only request extra details if it cannot detect the plugin type automatically.
- Check the validation report and finish the installation.
✅ Expected result: Moodle completes the installation and Tutor AI becomes available under Local plugins.
Option 2: Installing manually
- Copy the plugin source into your Moodle installation folder:
{your/moodle/dirroot}/local/dttutor
- Visit Site administration → Notifications to complete the installation.
Alternatively, run the CLI upgrade tool if you prefer the command line:
php admin/cli/upgrade.php
✅ Expected result: the upgrade completes without errors and Tutor AI is installed.
What the installation does
- Creates the plugin tables and gives
local/dttutor:useto the Manager, Editing teacher, Teacher and Student roles in courses. See Permissions. - Enables the site setting Enable chat (
local_dttutor/enabled) by default.
Next steps
Tutor AI needs no extra connection setup: it reads the license from the Datacurso AI Provider. To make the chat visible in a course:
- Review the site settings (new courses, conversation retention, avatar, tutor name, welcome message, prompt, course material and grades): Site configuration
- Enable the tutor in each course (not needed if Enable the tutor in new courses is on) from More → AI Tutor Management: Teacher configuration
