Overview

The Course Creator AI plugin helps teachers create complete Moodle courses and standalone activities with Datacurso AI services.

It works together with the Datacurso AI Provider, which supplies the license key, credit usage controls, and shared AI services used across the Datacurso plugin suite.

Teachers can define course intent through a prompt or a syllabus PDF, ask AI to propose a structured plan, adjust that plan, and then create the final course or individual activities.

Administrators and instructional designers can use Course Creator AI to:

  • Accelerate course production from prompts or existing syllabi.
  • Apply consistent pedagogical tone and structure with reusable system instructions.
  • Keep AI credit usage under provider-level controls and reports.

What Course Creator AI enables in Moodle​

  • Create a full course with AI from a custom prompt or syllabus PDF.
  • Review and adjust the proposed plan before final creation.
  • Create AI-assisted activities inside existing courses.
  • Reuse system instructions to maintain institutional consistency.

AI course creation flow in v2​

The v2 flow is:

  1. Open My courses.
  2. Click Create with AI.
  3. Define initial AI context, language, and image field.
  4. Run planning, review, and adjust as needed.
  5. Confirm creation and wait for completion.

During this flow, the interface can show recent sessions so users can resume in-progress work without restarting.

Initial AI context​

In v2, the process starts with an initial AI context inside the Create with AI experience. This context defines the base AI uses to plan and generate the course.

Key context fields are:

  • Context source: Custom prompt or Syllabus (PDF).
  • Guidelines (system instruction): optional rules for tone, structure, and institutional criteria.
  • Response language: target language for generated content.
  • Image field: control to enable or disable image generation during creation.

With this initial setup, AI generates a proposal, allows adjustments, and then executes final course creation.

Requirements​

  • Moodle 4.5 or later.
  • Datacurso AI Provider plugin installed and licensed.
  • Proper permissions to create courses and manage activities.

Without a configured provider and valid license, generation features cannot be completed.
